Dr. Caroline Leaf is a communication pathologist and cognitive neuroscientist with a Masters and PhD in Communication Pathology and a BSc Logopaedics, specializing in cognitive and metacognitive neuropsychology. Since the early 1980s, she has researched the mind-brain connection, the nature of mental health, and the formation of memory. She was one of the first in her field to study how the brain can change (neuroplasticity.) Dr. Leaf hosts the podcast, Cleaning up the Mental Mess and is a best-selling author of several books, including her latest, How to Help Your Child Clean Up Their Mental Mess: A Guide to Building Resilience and Managing Mental Health.

What you'll learn from this episode:

  • How to use the multiple perspective advantage to evaluate your emotions, behaviors, body sensations, and your perspective to start your day with awareness.

  • The importance of reading to your children as a way to connect—and the power of stories in teaching children how problems are solved and giving them language to explain emotions.

  • Why you should model vulnerability to your kids using age appropriate language, and how working through difficult experiences helps us build resilience.

  • How to use the 5-step neurocycle, a mind directed neuroplasticity technique that was first developed for traumatic brain injuries—and how this powerful technique helps the brain work through trauma, learn emotional regulation, and empowers you to control your own mind.

  • It takes much less time to change simple behaviors like drinking more water, but to become a long term change, it takes about 63 days to completely rewire your brain with the neurocycle—and complex traumas can take longer, but change is possible!

  • And much more!
