Scott Barry Kaufman, PhD is a professor of psychology at Columbia University, a columnist for Scientific American, and the host of The Psychology Podcast. He studies creativity, intelligence, and humanistic psychology and focuses on how to remove the blocks that impede living well. He is the author of several books; his latest is Transcend: The New Science of Self-Actualization.
What you'll learn from this episode:
What is self-actualization, how can we strive to attain it, and what lies beyond?
You may have heard of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, but what became most important to Abraham Maslow himself when he survived a heart attack?
How does self-transcendence differ from self-actualization, and which path most appeals to you?
Why Scott would rather enjoy the process of learning than worry about how that new knowledge can be practically applied.
Why Scott envisions a sailboat instead of a pyramid as he revisits Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
And so much more!
